Saturday, March 22, 2008
CSC Representative: Brian Higginbotham
Bout: 1
Red Corner: Andrew Sharp
Blue Corner: Charles Byrd
Weight: 155 lbs (Lightweight)
Details: As the first fighter makes their entrance via the raised
catwalk, the crowd goes crazy! A major highlight of the event was the
fighter entrance stage - a major COH tradition. The entire crowd (a full
house) erupted and roared. Both fighters enter the cage and go to their
assigned corners. Referee Brandon Schwinn provides pre-bout instructions
to both fighters, touching them up and sending them to their corners.
Round 1 begins. Both fighters respectively circle analyzing each
other¢s game. Starting the action, Byrd throws a strong leg kick which is
checked by Sharp followed by some good stand-up combos. Both Sharp and
Byrd exchange strategically placed blows. Seeing the opportunity, Byrd
shoots in landing a takedown and immediately moves to full mount on Sharp.
After composing his posture, Byrd starts dropping bombs with some very
thorough ground-n-pound. Sharp, feeling the pressure makes every
attempt to clinch Byrd and re-gain control, but is
unsuccessful. The ground-n-pound continues forcing Referee Brandon
Schwinn to call a stop to the bout at 1:05 of Round 1. Crowd goes crazy
for the opening bout.
Winner: Charles Byrd, TKO - Strikes @ 1:05 of Round 1
Bout: 2
Red Corner: Jonathan Leech
Blue Corner: Aaron Chase
Weight: 170 lbs (Welterweight)
Details: As these fighters make their entrance to the cage, the
immediate fan favorite is easily identified as Aaron Chase, making his
entrance in a grey Army PT shirt and matching vale tudo shorts.
Referee Schwinn provides pre-bout instructions and touches them up.
Fighters proceed back to their respective corners. Bout begins with both
fighters aggressively moving into position in the center of the cage.
The action starts fast in this bout, with Chase jabbing in and throwing a
well placed overhand right, following it up with a strong double-leg
takedown landing him side control over Leech. Chase goes to work,
showing his experience with some strong ground-n-pound including some very
powerful hammer-fists, forcing Referee Schwinn to call a stop to the
contest at 0:49 of the opening round.
Winner: Aaron Chase, TKO - Strikes @ 0:49 of Round 1
Bout: 3
Red Corner: Josh Weldon
Blue Corner: Daniel Winans
Weight: 145 lbs (Featherweight)
Details: This bout really was an incredible display of technical
proficiency and experience. After both fighters make their entrances and are
given instructions by the referee, the bout begins. Showing respect,
both fighters touch gloves and circle each other working to gain ring
control. The action starts very quickly with stand-up exchange by both
fighters, initiated by Winans. Following some brief exchange of connecting
jabs, Winans clinches with Weldon and takes the fight to the ground,
landing in Weldon¢s closed guard. Both fighter¢s show their
experience and patience as they work to improve their positions. Winans, seeing
opportunity to pass the guard, starts with some good ground-n-pound
landing selective shots on Weldon, but is stopped by Weldon keeping
Winans close and tight, causing inactivity which forces the referee to bring
the fighter¢s back to their feet.
Both fighter¢s circle each other and exchange jabs. Seeing another
opportunity, Winans¢ shoots and takes Weldon down, landing again in
Weldon¢s closed guard. Trying for a reversal, Weldon works for a kimura
to sweep, but Winans slips out and stands up, but keeps Weldon on his
back. Winans starts to throw some bombs from a standing position, but
misses and falls right into the working guard of Weldon, who immediately
transitions his position and locks in a textbook triangle choke. As
Weldon cranks the choke, the bell sounds signaling the end of Round 1.
Both fighters return to their corners for round change.
Round 2 begins with some stand-up exchange by both fighters. Weldon
takes a chance and shoots in on Winans but Winans sprawls and reverses the
shot, turning the tables and again putting Weldon on his back. Weldon
works again for a triangle choke. As an attempt to free himself from
the tight submission, Winans tries for a slam but is rolled over placing
Weldon on top with a deep locked in triangle choke. Seeing the
opportunity, Weldon begins some un-blocked ground-n-pound right to Winans¢
face and tightens the triangle choke forcing a tap out by Winans at 2:28
of Round 2.
Winner: Josh Weldon, Submission - Triangle Choke @ 2:28 of Round 2

Gershtner works for dominant position and transitions to back control
over King. Gershtner works the back control looking for a rear-naked
choke. King reverses his position, but ends up underneath Gershtner in
full mount. Seeing a straight arm, Gershtner attempts an armbar, but King
quickly pulls out. End of Round 1.
Round 2 starts with both fighters circling each other in the center of
the cage. Gershtner throws a strong left hook and goes in for the
clinch. Gershtner lifts King off the mat and slams King hard, landing in

their next move. Brumfield moves in for the clinch again and starts
with some very good stand-up combos, all landing
on their designated targets. After some brief inactivity in the
clinch, referee Schwinn again breaks up the fighters. Again, they circle
briefly. Brumfield throws a strong leg kick then shoots in and takes

momentum, Meyers reverses the position and acquires mount position. Each
fighter continues to improve their position as they move to a north/south
position. Lawson, seeing an opening, slides his knees in and obtains
full guard on Meyers. Meyers uses his strong wrestling experiences to
pass the guard and move to side control. Meyers starts throwing leather
down from side mount, which forces Lawson to take cover. As this happens,
Meyers moves to full mount and continues the ground-n-pound, forcing
Lawson to keep covered up. Seeing that Lawson was in trouble and not
